The world of television has undergone a radical transformation in recent years, driven by the growth of streaming platforms and the demand for on-demand content.
In this constantly evolving landscape, a Guatemalan company has decided to take a step forward: LebenTV. This streaming platform has been recognized as an example of innovation and disruption, offering a unique solution that allows users to watch free-to-air television from anywhere in the world. Its vision was recently honored at Training Day 2024, where it received the Innovation of the Year Award, standing out among more than 350 projects.
Perseverance and vision
The creation of LebenTV was neither a quick nor an easy process. As is often the case with disruptive ventures, the path was full of challenges. Gustavo Ortiz, co-creator of LebenTV, comments: “It was a process that truly took months, but here we are now celebrating. We started shaping it with our partners, figuring out how to make it viable, and today it's an example of 'yes, it can be done.'” This positive and persevering attitude was key to the project's success.
In an environment where many projects fail due to a lack of consistency or a clear strategy, LebenTV has managed to remain steadfast. “Attitude plays a significant role when launching a project. Many
Business ventures fail because they lack the vision to channel their

“efforts,” Ortiz adds. Since its inception, LebenTV has had a clear mission: to democratize access to free-to-air television, both for those residing in their country of origin and for those living abroad.
Without borders
One of LebenTV's greatest achievements has been its ability to connect people with their roots, regardless of their location. The platform provides access to free-to-air television signals from several countries, including Guatemala, El Salvador, and Panama, offering local content without geographical restrictions, with channels such as Guatevisión, Telemetro, OyeTV, RPCTV, and SerTV.
Beyond offering access to television content, LebenTV has revolutionized how companies and brands can interact with audiences. One of the pillars of its offering is real-time data collection, which allows companies to better understand users' consumption habits. "Who wouldn't want to know what someone in Petén is watching, or what someone in Santa Ana, El Salvador, is watching?" asks Ortiz. "We're changing a business model where advertising campaigns fail due to insufficient data. With our platform, we're offering valuable information about audience preferences."

Real-time data collection represents a shift in the television industry, similar to the changes experienced by sectors like transportation with Uber or hospitality with Airbnb. “We are offering a solution that many people needed, but that no one had yet provided,” he adds.
One of the major innovations LebenTV has planned for 2025 is the launch of the region's first programmatic advertising platform for digital television audiences. This solution will allow companies to publish ads targeted to specific audiences, based on data collected by the platform. “Currently, there is no television platform with programmatic advertising. We will be the first to offer it, and the innovation award we received at Training Day is just the beginning of what's to come,” says Ortiz.
